The initial photos have emerged of the Russian An-24 passenger plane that disappeared on Thursday with 49 people on board. Five children, four crew, and two airline employees were among the passengers.

The wreckage of the plane was found approximately 15 kilometres from the city of Tynda, on a mountain slope not far from the village of Kuvykta in Russia's eastern Amur province, which borders China.

Eyewitness videos taken moments before the crash depict the plane flying at a low height. Sources say the plane was making the second attempt at landing when it lost contact on the radar. The An-24 was operated by Siberian regional airline Angara Airlines and was traveling to Tynda when it lost contact during flight.

Although the authorities have yet to officially confirm the deaths, preliminary reports indicate there are no survivors. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
