It was a meeting of opposites when Reginald, the Guinness World Records’ tallest living dog, met Pearl, the shortest dog alive record holder. Separated by an incredible three feet in height, the two dogs appeared to become fast friends immediately.

Reginald, a seven-year-old Idaho Great Dane, stands at 3 feet 3 inches tall. Pearl, a four-year-old Florida Chihuahua, is only 3.59 inches tall, shorter than most cellphones. Their contrasting sizes are approximately the height of an acoustic guitar.

Owners Sam Johnson and Vanesa Semler didn’t hesitate to introduce their cherished pets. “Reggie is very good with other dogs, and other human beings,” stated Johnson. “He loves them a lot.” Semler further explained that Pearl was equally eager, stating, “When Pearl meets bigger dogs, she is really friendly. I think she has no idea she is a small dog… she just wants to be around [them].”

At the gathering at the Johnson residence, Reggie carefully sat down on a sofa to level with Pearl. The little pup ran around his legs in excitement. “I was surprised Pearl wasn’t more scared of Reggie,” Johnson said. “But she was so interested and excited about him, and he was just like ‘whoa, I have no idea what that is!'”

The owners also noted that their dogs, despite size difference, shared surprisingly similar idiosyncrasies. “They have more in common than not,” Johnson said. “People say ‘only small dogs are dressed’, but Reggie has a whole collection of sweaters he wears.”
