A viral social media video captured the moment when a woman’s holiday in the Maldives became a nightmare. In the video, Chels, a travel vlogger, is seen floating among a school of fish as a shark bites her hand. Chels’s partner, Antonio, filmed the incident, which he posted on Instagram.
The caption clarifies that the shark, a Nurse shark, mistook Chels’s hand to be tuna that it sucked it in but later released it. Chels got treated at the doctor’s for three injured fingers. The treatment process is combined with the footage of the shark bite.

Concerned social media users responded to the post, one saying, “You’re really lucky to still have all your fingers.” Some others attributed the incident to feeding sharks by tourists for the perfect Instagram photos, as one pointed out, “This is because people are feeding them to attract them so they can get the perfect Instagram shot!” Another responded, “You should have kept your distance. Hope you enjoyed the entertainment.”
Swimming with sharks is a popular activity in the Maldives, with many agencies taking tourists to swim with sharks or manta rays.
