A Colorado woman, enraged by her boyfriend’s mocking remarks about her job prospects, plotted his murder with a stranger she met on a bus.
Ashley White, 29, was convicted of second-degree murder for the 2020 killing of Cody DeLisa, 28. Prosecutors revealed that White harbored deep resentment toward DeLisa, which ultimately led to his brutal execution.
The Argument That Turned Deadly
Authorities said the couple’s relationship took a dark turn after White attended a job interview in Denver. While texting DeLisa about the interview, he expressed doubt about her chances of getting the job, which angered White.
Still seething, White struck up a conversation with a man on the bus, who introduced himself as “Scott.”
“Scott asked if she was in a relationship and whether she had been raped. When White responded that she had, Scott suggested they kill her boyfriend,” prosecutors stated.
A Calculated Murder Plot
Once they reached her home, White introduced Scott to DeLisa as her brother from Texas. Shortly after, DeLisa was shot twice in the head, and his body was discovered the next day during a welfare check.
Investigators later uncovered White’s diary, which revealed her long-standing resentment toward DeLisa. Shockingly, she had previously attempted to drown and burn his cat.
An Unexpected Confession
Three years after the crime, a woman named Michael Stratton’s girlfriend approached prosecutors, stating she believed her boyfriend was responsible for DeLisa’s murder.
Stratton, already in custody for a separate murder, had confessed to his girlfriend, and his story matched White’s account of the crime. However, he has not yet been charged in connection with DeLisa’s death.
Echoes of a Classic Crime Thriller
Some have pointed out similarities between this case and the 1951 Alfred Hitchcock film “Strangers on a Train”, where two strangers agree to commit each other’s murders to avoid getting caught.
Legal Consequences Await White
District Attorney Brian Mason condemned the crime, stating:
“This was a tragic and senseless murder, and Ashley White bears significant culpability. Her callous actions led to the victim’s death, and now she will face the consequences.”
