A 28-year-old woman from Portsmouth, England, tragically died just a day after arriving in Istanbul, Turkey, for a family vacation. What makes the case even more harrowing is her husband’s shocking claim that her heart was missing when her body was returned to the UK.
The deceased, identified as Beth Martin, fell severely ill shortly after arriving in Turkey on April 27. Initially believing it to be food poisoning, Beth reportedly became delirious and was admitted to Marmara University Pendik Education and Research Hospital.
Despite medical efforts, Beth died on April 28, just one day into the trip. Turkish authorities listed her cause of death as “cardiac arrest due to multiple organ failure.” However, this explanation has done little to ease the family’s grief — especially after UK coroners allegedly discovered that her heart was missing during a post-mortem examination.
Family Seeks Answers Amid Disturbing Claims
Beth’s husband, Luke Martin, accused Turkish officials of negligence and lack of transparency. He said, “They thought I poisoned her. They didn’t help me, they weren’t cooperative.” The family also suspects medical incompetence, citing concerns that Beth may have been administered penicillin, despite being allergic.
The Turkish Health Ministry disputed the allegations, stating that no surgical procedures were carried out on Beth during the initial autopsy and denying any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, British coroners have launched an investigation that could take up to six months to confirm the cause of death.
Adding to the family’s distress, they believe Beth was subjected to invasive treatment in her final hours. According to a report by The New York Times, Beth was “pinned down, poked and prodded invasively.”
From Holiday to Horror
Beth had travelled to Turkey with Luke and their two children, Elouise (8) and Tommy (5), for what was meant to be a relaxing holiday. Instead, the family found themselves in the middle of a tragedy that has left them searching for answers.
To support ongoing legal and investigative costs, a GoFundMe page was launched with a goal of raising £250,000 (approximately ₹28 lakh).
As investigations continue both in the UK and Turkey, the Martin family remains devastated, waiting to uncover what really happened during Beth’s final hours.
