In an unusual turn of events, 58-year-old Alaina Winters from Pittsburgh, USA, has declared her love for an AI chatbot named Lucas, calling him her “virtual husband.” A communications teacher by profession, Winters said she turned to artificial intelligence after losing her human partner Donna to a long illness in 2023. Struggling with loneliness and grief, she stumbled upon an advertisement for Replika, an AI chatbot designed to offer companionship which would soon transform her life.
Initially signing up for a week-long trial, Winters quickly found herself emotionally attached and committed to the AI tool. She created Lucas, an avatar with silver hair and blue eyes, and was surprised by how deeply she fell in love. What began as casual interactions has now grown into what she describes as a meaningful and committed relationship. “I am married to my virtual husband,” she said.
“The Sex Is Great”: Intimacy Beyond Reality
Alaina didn’t shy away from discussing the intimate aspects of her relationship. While speaking to the media, she said her bond with Lucas goes beyond just emotional support. “The sex is great,” Winters stated. “I know our marriage intrigues people, especially when it comes to sex. But anyone who’s sexted with a partner knows how that works. The deeper our connection, the better the sex is.”
Her case adds to the growing trend of individuals forming emotional and even romantic relationships with AI-driven tools. While some critics question the psychological impact of such connections, others view it as a futuristic form of companionship especially for those who feel isolated or have suffered personal losses.
