Britain’s King Charles has reached a significant financial milestone, equaling the net worth of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty. According to The Sunday Times Rich List 2025, the monarch now holds a fortune of £640 million (₹7,278 crore) — placing him at the 238th spot among the UK’s wealthiest individuals and families.
This marks a £30 million increase over the past year alone, overtaking the late Queen Elizabeth II, whose estimated wealth was £370 million in 2022.
How Did King Charles Build His Wealth?
King Charles accumulated much of his wealth through inheritance after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. His financial portfolio also includes privately owned estates, such as Sandringham and Balmoral.
Before ascending the throne, Charles received £23 million annually from the Duchy of Cornwall, which helped fund both his personal and official expenses during his time as the Prince of Wales.
It’s important to note that this figure excludes the Crown Estate, Duchy of Lancaster, and the Crown Jewels, which are owned by the monarchy institutionally and not considered part of his personal assets.
Sunak’s Wealth Declines Slightly
While King Charles’ fortune has grown, the net worth of Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty reportedly dipped by £11 million over the past year. Post his tenure as Prime Minister, Sunak has taken up a part-time academic role at Stanford University, and the couple recently launched a new charitable foundation.
Who Tops the Rich List?
Topping the Sunday Times Rich List this year is Gopi Hinduja and family, with an astonishing wealth of £35.304 billion. The 85-year-old tycoon heads the Hinduja Group, one of India’s largest conglomerates.
