Watch: Sunita Williams Receives Birthday Wish In Space With Mohammed Rafi Connection

Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams was surprised with a special gift from Saregama music company in honor of her 59th birthday. The gift featured a rendition of the classic birthday song ‘Bar Bar Din Ye Aaye’ by the legendary Mohammed Rafi.

To celebrate her special day, Saregama assembled a group of musicians, singers, and celebrities to extend their birthday wishes. The company posted on Instagram: “Come on India, let’s sing #HappyBirthdaySunita along with India’s biggest icons and send our collective wishes to Astronaut Sunita Williams up in space. Use #HappyBirthdaySunita to post your videos and Tag @saregama_official.”

The video includes birthday wishes from film director Karan Johar, followed by performances of Mohd Rafi’s ‘Bar Bar Din Ye Aaye’ by renowned singers Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Hariharan, and Neeti Mohan. The post encourages people to create their own birthday messages for Sunita Williams and share them using #HappyBirthdaySunita.

In a separate post on Saregama’s Instagram, veteran actor Jeetendra Kapoor, who originally starred in the music video for the song, is featured singing along as the track plays in the background. The post is captioned, “The OG Star from the movie Farz, Jeetendra wishing in his own unique style.”

In yet another video, music legends like Shankar Mahadevan, Anup Jalota, Salim Merchant, Ila Arun, Haricharan Seshadri, and Shraddha Pandit are seen extending birthday wishes to Sunita Williams with their renditions of ‘Bar bar din ye aaye’.

Sunita Williams, currently aboard the International Space Station, is set to celebrate her 59th birthday tomorrow. She, along with Barry Wilmore, traveled to the ISS in June this year as part of Crew Flight Test (CFT), Boeing’s first-ever crewed mission of the Starliner capsule.

The mission was initially planned to last only a few days, but technical issues with the Boeing Starliner caused a delay in their return. The Starliner has since returned to Earth without a crew, while Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore are now expected to come back in February next year aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule.
