As Ganesh Chaturthi 2024 draws to a close, actress Bhumi Pednekar has delighted fans with a special treat: homemade Ukadiche Modak. In a recent Instagram reel, Pednekar showcased her process of making the traditional sweet from scratch, using her grandmother’s recipe.
The video features Pednekar preparing Ukadiche Modak, a steamed delicacy with a rice flour exterior and a coconut filling. She starts by making the dough, simmering milk and water with ghee and salt, then adding rice flour to create a soft, shaggy mixture. The dough is kneaded and rested for ten minutes.
Throughout the video, Pednekar appears to seek guidance from her mother and others off-camera, with her mom providing instructions via CCTV. For the filling, Pednekar combines grated coconut, ghee, poppy seeds, jaggery, and cardamom.
She forms the modaks by stuffing dough pieces with the coconut mixture, steaming them in turmeric leaves, and garnishing with saffron and ghee. In her Instagram caption, Pednekar humorously notes, “I am not a cook, but today I took on the challenge and decided to make some Ukadiche Modak! I can eat Modak for breakfast, lunch & dinner.”
