Viral Post Claims Swiggy Charges Delivery Agents For Bag,T-Shirt, Netizens React

A post on X regarding certain policies for Swiggy agents has ignited a heated online debate. The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union criticized the food delivery giant for charging its workers for the t-shirts, bags, and raincoats they are required to wear. These items feature Swiggy’s branding, which can be seen as a form of advertising.

The post included screenshots displaying the prices of these items: a Swiggy raincoat costs Rs 749, while the bag is priced at Rs 299 after a discount (originally Rs 899). A “Swiggy Kit,” consisting of two shirts and a bag, is priced at Rs 1199.

Another screenshot shows Swiggy’s directive requiring agents to carry the branded bag, with penalties for non-compliance. The directive emphasizes, “Carrying Swiggy bags to ensure hygienic deliveries is of utmost importance.” Additionally, agents must purchase replacements themselves if the bag is damaged or lost. The post’s caption reads, “Dear @Swiggy, why are delivery workers being charged for a bag, Raincoat and t-shirt that advertise your brand? If it’s promoting #Swiggy, they shouldn’t have to pay for it.”

Attempts to get a response from Swiggy were met with no comment. The post has generated significant attention online, garnering over 150K views. Many users have shared their opinions on the policy and the situation.
