A disturbing video shows what appears to be a police car passing by just as an illegal immigrant from Ecuador, Jhon Moises Chacaguasay-Ilbis, 21, was seen carrying the lifeless body of a woman out of an Airbnb in Syracuse, New York. Chacaguasay-Ilbis has been accused of murdering 21-year-old Joselyn Jhoana Toaquiza on her birthday.
Chacaguasay-Ilbis reportedly arranged to meet Toaquiza at his Airbnb on June 18. After allegedly suffocating her, he buried her body in a shallow grave in an upstate New York park, according to authorities and reported by the New York Post.
The connection between the victim and the suspect is believed to date back to their elementary school days in Ecuador. Chacaguasay-Ilbis entered the US illegally through El Paso, Texas, in January 2023 and was released due to insufficient detention space.
Toaquiza, on the other hand, crossed the southern border illegally into Lukeville, Arizona, in June 2023. Homeland Security sources say she was initially held by Border Patrol, where she expressed fear of returning to Ecuador due to threats from a former romantic partner, though it is unclear if this referred to Chacaguasay-Ilbis. She was later released with a future court date and planned to go to Chicago.
Surveillance footage captured Chacaguasay-Ilbis and Toaquiza entering the Airbnb together. Following Toaquiza’s death, Chacaguasay-Ilbis surrendered himself to the authorities. He has been charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse. During his appearance in Syracuse City Court, he claimed he could not remember the murder due to being too drunk.
