In Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, a police station found itself in an embarrassing situation after a lineman cut off its illegal electricity connection in retaliation for being fined for not wearing a helmet. The incident, which took place at Sawaijpur police station, has sparked widespread controversy, with a video of the lineman disconnecting the power going viral on social media.
Police Fined Lineman, Leading to Unexpected Retaliation
The lineman, Upendra Yadav, was on patrol inspecting power lines when police stopped and fined him for not wearing a helmet. Despite his explanation that he had to frequently stop and check the line, police issued a challan. Frustrated by the situation, Yadav discovered that the police station was using stolen electricity through an illegal connection, commonly known as “Katia.” In response, he cut the unauthorized power supply, leaving the station without electricity.

“Law Is Equal for All,” Says Electricity Department
The Electricity Department has supported the lineman’s actions, emphasizing that laws apply to everyone. Junior Engineer Sarfaraz Ahmed stated, “Law is one for all. We obey traffic rules, but scanning the line while wearing a helmet is difficult. Meanwhile, the police station was illegally using electricity, so the Katia connection was rightfully removed.”
Authorities revealed that the new police station building had not yet received an official electricity connection, leading to officers using an illegal supply. The incident has now intensified scrutiny over both the enforcement of traffic rules and the police’s own adherence to the law.
