UK Woman Struck By Cauliflower While Shopping Suffers Ongoing Headache And Nausea

Sammi Mai, a UK woman, was struck on the head by a large cauliflower as she shopped at a Waitrose grocery store in the county town of Bath in Somerset. Fox News reported that Mai was shopping through a clearance area when the heavy vegetable came crashing from the top shelf to hit her head, whereupon she collapsed. She was diagnosed later with post-concussion syndrome, and she is still suffering with headaches, nausea, and neck pains.

“Suddenly a really large and heavy item fell on the top of my head. I fell and when I woke up, I was suffering [from a] concussion and was knocked out,” Mai told Fox. The cauliflower, which she said fell from a height of at least four feet, has left her with ongoing symptoms and disrupted her holiday.

On the second day of the incident, Mai made a call to the customer care service of the store with her husband and as a result, she received £25 gift voucher and £8 towards taxi fare. However, she was frustrated with this response because the injury had ruined her life considerably. She told The Sun, “As a loyal Waitrose customer, I feel deeply let down by their response… This ruined our holiday.”. I was very ill and I still suffer and am unable to work, he explained.

Mai also criticised the way the shop responded to the case at the time of happening, saying the workers just put back the cauliflower and did not act accordingly. She complained about it and was cautioned by Waitrose to consult a lawyer in case she wanted to pursue the case. If she could go back and do some things, Mai noted that, “I wish I’d checked CCTV or got a witness statement on the day.”

The supermarket replied to Fox News Digital with a statement confirming Mai was attended to by the first aider at the store immediately. Waitrose again reconfirmed its commitment to customer safety. “We take customer safety incredibly seriously and have thoroughly investigated this case – but will consider any new information she wishes to share with us,” the statement read.
