Alice Delsie Preete Webb, a 34-year-old mother of five and beauty therapist, has become the first person in the UK to die following a non-surgical liquid Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure. Ms. Webb, an advanced aesthetic practitioner from Gloucestershire, underwent the treatment in late September. Sadly, she passed away after falling critically ill during the procedure, which was allegedly performed by an unqualified individual.
Following Ms. Webb’s death, Gloucestershire Police arrested two people on suspicion of manslaughter. Both suspects have been released on bail, but the investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing. According to a police statement, officers were called by paramedics after Webb became unwell during the procedure. She was rushed to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where she passed away early the next morning. Her family, including her five children, are being supported by specially trained officers.
The liquid Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) involves injecting hyaluronic acid or dermal fillers into the buttocks to enhance volume and shape. While it is marketed as a safer, less invasive alternative to traditional BBL, it carries significant risks, particularly when performed by individuals without proper medical qualifications.
The procedure, which typically costs around £2,500, can last up to two years but is considered far riskier than many realize. Despite being non-surgical, complications like infection, tissue damage, and even death can occur. Some people choose to travel abroad, such as to Turkey, for cheaper treatments, but this often adds to the risk factor.
While the liquid BBL offers temporary results, the traditional BBL, which involves fat grafting, provides longer-lasting effects but at a higher cost (ranging from £5,000-£6,000). Traditional BBL procedures, lasting about two hours, have a more involved recovery process but are performed by qualified surgeons in a medical setting, reducing the risk of serious complications.
