UAE National Day: How to Make the Most of the Eid Al Etihad 2024 Long Weekend

The UAE is set to celebrate its 53rd National Day, known as Eid Al Etihad, on December 2, offering residents a chance to reflect on the nation’s remarkable journey of resilience, determination, and success. This year, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has declared official paid holidays for private sector employees on December 2 and 3 (Monday and Tuesday), aligning with the weekend, giving UAE residents an opportunity to enjoy an extended break.

Significance of UAE National Day

Eid Al Etihad marks the historic unification of the seven emirates in 1971, under the leadership of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, forming the United Arab Emirates. The theme of this year’s celebration is the “Spirit of the Union,” with numerous events planned to honor the occasion.

Rules and Regulations for National Day

The UAE government has implemented several guidelines to ensure safe and respectful celebrations. Key restrictions include:

  • Adhering to traffic regulations and following police instructions.
  • Avoiding the use of party sprays by drivers, passengers, or pedestrians.
  • Keeping both front and rear license plates visible and not altering vehicle colors or tinting the front windows.
  • Refraining from placing stickers, signs, or logos unless they are officially approved for Eid Al Etihad.
  • Not exceeding the permitted number of passengers and avoiding unsafe actions like hanging out of windows or sunroofs.
  • Avoiding unauthorized vehicle modifications that may obstruct vision or create noise.
  • Ensuring that roads are clear for emergency vehicles and refraining from obstructing traffic or performing stunts.

How to Celebrate UAE National Day

Dubai’s celebrations will span from November 28 to December 3, featuring shopping deals, acrobat performances, musical shows, fireworks, and a variety of culinary experiences. In Sharjah, all public museums will offer free entry on December 1 and 2. The official National Day festivities will take place in Al Ain, with the country’s rulers and leaders in attendance to mark the occasion.
