There’s no disputing Tom Cruise is charmingly effortless, but his recent act has left fans swooning over more than his action sequences. In a recently-viral promotional clip, Cruise goes out of his way and makes an earnest and surprisingly lucid effort at speaking Hindi, winning hearts instantly and potentially selling tickets for Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, out in theatres today.
The clip starts with Cruise flashing his iconic smile and declaring, “Main aap sabse bohot pyaar karta hoon (I love you all a lot),” then, “Hello India, I love you. I love Bollywood movies. Oh my gosh, you kidding? Absolutely. They are so wonderful and unique, where you can just break out in a song, it’s beautiful! I would love to make a Bollywood style film. it would be so much fun doing it.”
He not only commends Bollywood’s colorful film fare but also reminisces about his earlier trip to India. Cruise had visited the nation in 2011 during the promotion of Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol, which also starred Anil Kapoor. On that trip, he went to the Taj Mahal in Agra, an experience which obviously left an enduring impression. “I visited the Taj Mahal, yeah it was lovely.” Just Mumbai was fantastic, I just won’t ever be able to get over it. I just can’t wait to go back there,” he says in the video.
