In a tragic discovery, three decomposing bodies were found on Thursday inside a car that had plunged into a nullah near Umbermali village on the Mumbai-Nashik highway. The car, hidden by thick vegetation, was finally spotted by a local woman grazing her cattle.
Details About The Incident
The woman, while grazing her cattle, noticed a foul smell and found a slightly submerged vehicle, which led to her alerting the villagers, who then informed the police.
The Kasara police and disaster management officials rushed to the scene. There, they found three deceased men inside the car, all in a highly decomposed state. The bodies were identified as Yadnesh Waghela from Khar, Pravin Kumar Singh (27) from Powai, and Rajabali Sheikh (29) from Kurla. The trio were close friends and had left Mumbai on June 2 to visit Trimbakeshwar in Nashik.
TIt was revealed in the initial investigation that the car was registered in Mumbai. Police are yet to determine how the car actually went off the road. Officers suspect the accident occurred around five days ago but remained unnoticed because of the remote location and thick foliage.
Police’s Statement On The Matter
“We suspect that the driver of the vehicle lost control and veered off the highway, crashing into the nullah, resulting in the death of all the three. Due to the thick foliage and the remote location, the wreckage went unnoticed,” said a senior officer from the Shahapur police division.
Yadnesh had told his family about the trip, while the other two reportedly said they’d return in a few hours. When they didn’t come back, missing complaints were filed at Khar, Powai, and Vinoba Bhave police stations.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and forensic experts are being consulted to confirm the cause of death and rule out foul play. Investigation is still ongoing to find evidence which proves otherwise.
