Amid the diplomatic tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, an Instagram video from Pakistan has gone viral for an entirely different reason, an eye-popping price tag on a used Suzuki Alto.
Posted by the handle @ahsancars_, the video showcases a 2019 Suzuki Alto located in Karachi, offered at a staggering price of 23 lakh Pakistani rupees. Equipped with alloy wheels, an Android panel, and having clocked 54,000 kilometers, the four-year-old car is also available on bank lease. However, its asking price has left many baffled.
In India, the same model would fetch no more than Rs 1 lakh, say users. “In India, this car would not even fetch Rs 50,000,” commented Ravi, one of many astonished viewers. Another user, Arunav, added, “My 2022 Alto model would only sell for Rs 1 lakh.” Kaushik from Delhi noted, “This same model is available here for Rs 50,000.”

The drastic price difference has triggered a wave of reactions online, exposing the deep economic strain on ordinary Pakistani citizens. What is considered a budget car in India appears to be treated like a luxury vehicle across the border. Social media users have even dubbed the Suzuki Alto a “Pakistani BMW” given its inflated price.
This comes at a time when India has imposed strict retaliatory measures against Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. While the Indian Army has declared readiness to counter Pakistani threats and several Pakistani YouTube channels have been banned, Instagram remains a platform where videos like these continue to emerge, giving an unscripted view into the lives and struggles of citizens.
The viral video has amassed thousands of views, sparking debate over affordability, rising inflation, and the stark economic realities in Pakistan.
