Would you buy a flight ticket without knowing the destination? That’s exactly what hundreds of adventurous travelers did when Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) rolled out its latest round of ‘mystery flights’ earlier this month.
Departing from Copenhagen Airport, passengers boarded the aircraft with no clue where they were heading. Their boarding passes only read: “Unknown Schengen.” The airline had promised a surprise location somewhere within the Schengen Zone. The tickets were exclusively available to members of SAS’s EuroBonus loyalty program—and they sold out in just four minutes after launching in February 2025.

The mystery was finally revealed when the aircraft touched down in Seville, Spain—a vibrant city known for its flamenco culture and sun-soaked architecture. This marked the second year SAS offered such an experience, with last year’s surprise destination being Athens.

A passenger waiting at the airport had posted an image of the mysterious flight display on social media, writing, “Scandinavian Airlines are running ‘unknown’ destination flights. You buy a ticket and board the plane. Then you find out where you are going. Would you do it?” The post quickly gained traction with responses like, “Adventure! Yes I would do it,” and “Sounds pretty interesting.”
The unique campaign has not only excited travelers but also successfully created a buzz around the airline’s loyalty program. It seems that for SAS, the thrill of not knowing might just be the perfect ticket to traveler loyalty.
