Elon Musk’s Tesla has once again made headlines — not for a new car or a rocket launch, but for a humanoid robot showing off its dance moves. A video featuring Tesla’s Optimus robot has gone viral on social media, leaving users in awe over the robot’s fluidity and coordination. While many debated whether the video was AI-generated, it quickly became clear that Tesla’s real humanoid robot had taken a major leap forward.

Shopify CEO Joins the Hype

The clip even caught the attention of Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke, who reshared it on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle with a caption that read: “We are here on this timeline’s tech tree.” His comment added fuel to the conversation about how far robotics has come — and how much further it may go.

“Mind Blown”: Netizens React

Viewers of the viral video expressed their astonishment across platforms. One user wrote, “Optimus already dances better than most humans, wow,” while another added, “Mind blown, I can’t believe this is real. Tobi, last-mile delivery with Optimus and Robotaxi (e.g., Robovan) for Shopify customers. Talk to Elon about making use of such a service if Tesla offers it in the future!”

“This is incredible,” read another popular comment, reflecting the general sentiment online.

From AI Day to Real Progress

Tesla first introduced the concept of the Optimus humanoid robot at its AI Day in 2021, where a performer dressed as a robot danced on stage. By 2022, Tesla unveiled a semi-functional prototype capable of walking and basic arm movements. That early reveal has now evolved into a real, moving, dancing robot — suggesting significant progress in Tesla’s robotics division.

The Road Ahead: 1,000 Robots by 2025

Tesla has big plans for Optimus. According to its Q1 2025 financial statement cited by The Mirror, the company aims to produce over 1,000 units for internal use next year. It also plans to open external sales of Optimus robots by 2026.

Last year, several of these humanoid robots were seen at Tesla’s “We, Robot” event, serving drinks, interacting with guests, and moving in sync to music. The latest viral dance video hints at even more advanced capabilities to come.
