Two teenage boys have been arrested after they allegedly threw a heavy seat from the third floor of Stratford Westfield shopping centre, nearly hitting shoppers below. The shocking incident, which took place on Saturday, March 1, came to light after a video of the act went viral on social media. The footage captured the seat being tossed over the railing, followed by a group of boys running up an escalator.

Police Investigation and Arrests

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were taken into custody on suspicion of criminal damage. Both are currently being held as authorities continue their investigation. Law enforcement officials are reviewing security footage to identify any additional suspects involved in the incident.

Westfield Management Responds

Westfield management acknowledged the severity of the incident and confirmed that the matter is now under police investigation. Inspector Dan Window from Stratford’s Neighbourhood Policing Team described it as a “serious incident” that could have resulted in severe injuries or even fatalities. “This could have had tragic consequences, and we are determined to identify everyone involved,” he stated.

Public Outrage and Safety Concerns

The video has sparked outrage online, with social media users condemning the teenagers’ reckless actions. Shoppers who were present at the time expressed shock and fear, emphasizing how the falling seat could have caused serious harm had it landed just a few feet differently.
