A 17-year-old school student was murdered by her classmate when she refused to talk to him in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, police said on Sunday.
The Class 12 student’s body was found on Saturday from a field used for farming which comes under the Umarban police post, about 70 km from the district headquarters, an official said.
Police Investigation and Confession
Further Superintendent of Police Gitesh Garg said that they opened an investigation after learning about the murder.
Police then heard that she was being harassed by a classmate, he added.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to having killed the teenager. He told the police that he got angry after she had stopped talking to him, the official added.
The girl was asked by the victim to come and meet him on Friday night at an agricultural farm, where he killed her with a sharp object.
Community Anger and Safety Issues
The incident has generated broad outrage regarding the safety of young women as well as the rising cases of gender violence in schools.
The local authorities have called for schools to adopt awareness programs on the issues of respectful conduct and conflict resolution among the students.
Calls for Action and Reform
Leaders of the community in Dhar district have demanded stronger action against harassment and ensuring safety for students both in and out of school. They recommend instituting counseling centers and incorporating mental health courses into school curricula so students can cope with emotional issues constructively.
The police have guaranteed that the case would be accelerated and that the accused would be subject to tough legal proceedings. They are also considering whether child psychologists would be involved to try to identify the reasons why such a violent crime was committed by a minor.
This case highlights the critical need for a collaborative effort between educators, parents, law enforcement, and mental health professionals to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for students.
