Teen Boys Beaten to Death After Dispute Over Tandoori Roti at Wedding in Amethi

What was meant to be a celebratory event at a wedding in Amethi in Uttar Pradesh ended in gory fashion when a dispute over tandoori rotis led to the brutal murder of two teens. 17-year-old Ashish and 18-year-old Ravi were beaten to death after a shouting match at a food stall at the wedding.

Police reported that the altercation took place at midnight on Sunday when Ashish and Ravi, cousins, were standing in line at the tandoori roti stall. There, they had an argument with Rohit, a groom’s cousin, and some other guests. What began as a shouting match soon turned into a full-blown fight, with witnesses claiming that Rohit and his friends felt “disrespected” and “humiliated” by the teens.

Attacked with Sticks and Rods

Ashish and Ravi, after the initial confrontation, took a few friends and left the wedding hall. But at about 1 a.m., they were apparently attacked by Rohit and his friends, who possessed iron rods, hockey sticks, and lathis. Although some of the friends did escape, the two cousins were overpowered and brutally attacked on the road.

Passersby later discovered their badly injured bodies and took them to a nearby hospital. Because of the severity of their injuries, they were shifted to AIIMS Rae Bareli and subsequently to a hospital in Lucknow. Unfortunately, Ashish died on the way, and Ravi was pronounced dead on arrival.

Shiv Bahadur, Ashish’s father, spoke of his horror and grief at the brutal brutality. “My son had gone to a wedding. He never returned. The victims were both students, young and full of promise. And all for a few rotis?” he said to TOI.

FIR Registered, Arrests Made

After the complaint of the father, an FIR was lodged against 13 people—eight of them named, and five unidentified—under sections such as murder and rioting. Amethi Additional SP Harendra Kumar has confirmed that three of the identified suspects have been arrested, and attempts are being made to trace the others.
