Sudha Murty Remembers Ratan Tata: ‘He was a person of integrity…’

On Thursday, Sudha Murty, author, philanthropist, and Rajya Sabha MP, paid tribute to the late industrialist Ratan Tata, stating that his passing signifies the “end of an era.” She expressed feeling a “vacuum” in her personal life due to his absence.

In her remarks to ANI, she described Tata as “a man of integrity and simplicity, always caring for others and compassionate,” adding, “I really miss him… I don’t think in my experience I met anyone like him. May I only pray, may his soul rest in peace. He was a legend; there was an era, but this is the end of an era for me.”

Murty emphasized the significance of Tata’s integrity, remarking, “He was a person of integrity, which was so important. He had enormous patience. He was a simple man… I learned philanthropy in the House of Tatas only. It’s my personal loss… I feel now vacuumed in my personal life.”

Eighty-six-year-old Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons and a noted philanthropist, passed away on October 9 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Reports indicate that he was admitted in critical condition.

In a statement, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran expressed, “It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation.”

Earlier that day, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid their respects to Tata. The President remarked that the country “lost an icon who blended corporate growth with nation-building, and excellence with ethics.” She extended condolences to Tata’s family and the entire Tata Group, highlighting that his contributions to philanthropy and charity were “invaluable.”

Prime Minister Modi also conveyed his condolences, referring to Tata as “a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being.”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Tata’s last rites would be conducted with full state honors. While PM Modi has traveled to Laos to attend the ASEAN-India and East Asia summits, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will represent the government at the late industrialist’s funeral.
