A disturbing video capturing a tragic incident during a tractor race fair in Domeli village, Punjab’s Phagwara, has gone viral, showing a speeding tractor ramming into several people. Reports indicate the tractor went out of control, resulting in chaos and injuries.
The viral video depicts numerous tractors and their owners gathered to witness the race. The driver of a red tractor loses control and plows into the crowd, causing panic as people scramble to safety. The incident led to ten people being hospitalized.
Akashdeep Thind, an X user, shared the video, stating, “Uncontrolled tractor rammed a few people in the village (Domeli) of Phagwara. The incident happened during a tractor race in the fair.” The post, shared on June 15, has garnered over 35,000 views.
Many social media users demanded government compensation for the injured. One user remarked, “They deserve it, why would you risk going to such crazy nonsensical events!!!” Another commented, “Government should compensate the loss.”
Expressing concern, a third user wrote, “I hope there were no fatalities!! and what on earth are local authorities doing? Did they take all safety measures?”
According to Gautam Rishi, another X user, the incident left several people, including children, severely injured. In response, local police have seized three vehicles and detained four individuals in connection with the incident.
This incident follows an October 2023 ban by the Punjab government on tractor stunts after a stuntman was fatally crushed under a tractor’s tires in Gurdaspur district. The recent tragedy underscores the need for stringent safety measures and enforcement at public events to prevent such accidents.
