Shocking Video: Canadian Landlord Evicts Indian Tenant, Video Goes Viral

A viral video showing a Canadian landlord forcibly evicting an Indian tenant has ignited widespread reactions on social media. The 15-second clip captures the tenant standing helplessly, shirtless, while the landlord removes his belongings from the property. With over four million views, the footage has prompted discussions on landlord-tenant relationships in foreign countries.

Incident Details

Shared by Jist, the video was captioned: “A Canadian landlord was caught on video throwing out the belongings of an Indian tenant who allegedly refused to vacate the property. The incident occurred in Brampton, Ontario, and has since gone viral, sparking outrage online.”

The caption further mentioned that the tenant claimed he hadn’t received proper notice to vacate. In the video, the landlord is seen discarding items onto the street while tenants express their disapproval. This situation has raised concerns about tenant rights and proper eviction procedures in Canada.

Mixed Reactions

Despite the outrage, many social media users argued that the video may not present the full story. One Instagram user commented, “Pretty sure not Brampton. It’s really difficult for a landlord to evict the tenant in Ontario. The tenant can take the landlord to court and basically stay rent-free until it is resolved, which can take months to almost 1.5 years. This could be a case of tenant not adhering to landlord rules, and they were being evicted.”

Another user pointed out the lack of context, saying, “I really miss ‘real’ news channels when I see these videos with no context… Just for people with two sides of opinion fighting it out!” Some users took a lighter tone, joking about the situation, with one saying, “I support landlord,” while another commented, “Indian being Indian, not taking warning seriously.”

In a related issue, the US-Canada border, the longest open border globally at over 9,000 km, has seen an increase in undocumented Indian migrants crossing into the US on foot. Data reviewed by The Indian Express reveals that the number of Indians crossing the US-Canada border has reached a record high, with 5,152 undocumented individuals making the journey in June alone.

This surge has sparked scrutiny of Canada’s visa screening process, especially as Canada-bound Indian travelers have also been seeking asylum in the UK while in transit. Since December 2023, the number of Indians crossing from Canada into the US has exceeded those using the infamous Mexico route.
