A tragic incident unfolded in Rajasthan’s Baran district where 75 buffaloes were found dead in a pond in Jalwada village, under Nahargarh police station limits. The shocking discovery was made on Monday afternoon by a passerby, who noticed the animals lying lifeless in the water. The news spread quickly, prompting villagers to gather at the site and alert local authorities.

Villagers Suspect Electrocution

According to preliminary information, villagers allege that a current leak from an electric pole may have caused the mass deaths. Reportedly, a spark from the electric pole caused electricity to pass into the pond, leading to the tragic electrocution of the buffaloes. These buffaloes had reportedly been grazing near the fields before settling in the pond, where they later died.

“Some villagers have also said that there was sparking. After this, the power of one phase of the power lines was blown,” said Nahargarh Police Station Officer Dharmpal Yadav, who visited the site.

Demand for Compensation, Refusal of Post-Mortem

The incident triggered widespread anger among locals, who have demanded immediate compensation, claiming the total loss amounts to approximately ₹70 lakh. Villagers have refused to allow a post-mortem, despite police requesting it to ascertain the exact cause of death.

“The buffaloes belong to villagers, which were earlier left around the fields. After this, all the buffaloes went and sat in the pond and after some time they died,” added Yadav.

Authorities, including Additional District Collector Diwanshu Sharma, Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Chaudhary, Additional SP Rajesh Chaudhary, and SDM Kishanganj Abhayraj Singh, reached the site to pacify the crowd and assess the situation.

The administration continues to negotiate with the villagers to facilitate an investigation while assuring them of necessary support and compensation.
