The Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College at Indore took significant steps on Tuesday to cleanse its premises using Ganga water after allegations surfaced regarding a “Halloween party” held in its historic 150-year-old building. The college administration clarified that they did not authorize this event.
Purification Efforts by Medical Staff
Members of the Medical Teachers’ Association (MTA) and other medical professionals participated in the purification ceremony by sprinkling Gangajal around the King Edward Medical School, which dates back to 1878 during British rule.
“We learned that a Halloween party was recently held in this building. We have purified the building area by sprinkling Gangajal,” said MTA President Rahul Rokde, as he spoke to PTI. He also urged for legal action to be taken against those who organized the event.
College’s Official Statement
Dr. Sanjay Dixit, the college dean, explained that they had only permitted representatives from a local organization called the Jain Social Group to inspect the premises. “We didn’t permit a Halloween party,” he emphasized, adding that an investigation into the matter would be initiated.
Eyewitness Accounts and Building Condition
Eyewitnesses reported that the walls of the historic building were marked with phrases inspired by a horror comedy film, as well as other scary and inappropriate writings. Images shared on social media depicted the building painted to resemble a haunted site.
Concerns from Alumni
Dr. Sumit Shukla, the superintendent of the Government Super Specialty Hospital and an alumnus of the medical college, expressed his dismay regarding the incident. “We cannot tolerate such an act because this building is a heritage of the medical field and alma mater of many reputed doctors. We want the building’s renovation to preserve the rich history of Indore’s medical fraternity,” he stated.
