Pune Thief Steals Rs. 4.9 Lakh Gold Jewelry As Couple Stops For Vada Pav | Watch

A couple in Pune lost gold jewelry valued at ₹4.9 lakh after a man stole their bag while they were stopped for vada pav. The incident, captured on CCTV, shows the thief picking up the bag as the couple was momentarily distracted. The video has gone viral, shocking viewers and accumulating over six lakh views.

The couple, Dashtrath Babaulal Dhamne, 69, and his wife Jayashree, residents of White Field Society, Manjari, were on their way home after retrieving the gold from the State Bank of India (SBI), where it had been pledged for a loan. They stopped at a vada pav shop on Pune-Solapur road. While Dashtrath was getting food, Jayashree stayed by their scooter. The video shows her inspecting something at the back of the vehicle when a man in a white shirt approaches, grabs the bag, and walks away. Jayashree notices him and begins shouting for help.

The footage has sparked a range of reactions online. Some users speculated that the thief had been following the couple from the bank, waiting for an opportunity. Others criticized the couple for not securing their valuables better:

  • “They don’t look like random thieves; they must have been following them from the bank itself and took their chance when they got the opportunity,” said one X user.
  • Another commented, “Stupid people who don’t know how to secure precious things. Will lose one way or another. Who would hang a purse like that if it had so much gold?”
  • A third user posted, “Leaving gold like this or even a bag like this in the open without any supervision, what result do you expect?”
  • A fourth wrote, “It was clearly the fault of the couple. How could they be so careless to keep that outside? The wife was even more careless, and the robber was following them. He knew what he wanted to do.”

The stolen bag also contained a mobile phone and bank documents. The thief escaped by quickly getting into a vehicle.
