In a bizarre incident in Kanpur, a 21-year-old man and his 19-year-old girlfriend were physically assaulted by the man’s parents during the daytime. The incident, which occurred at the Ram Gopal crossing point in the Gujaini locality on Friday, was recorded and went viral on social media within minutes.
The youth, Rohit, was enjoying chowmein with his girlfriend at a roadside restaurant when his parents, Shiv Karan and Sushila, caught up with him. The parents, who had disapproved of their relationship, were violent in their reaction and started beating Rohit and his girlfriend.
The video clip captures Sushila pulling the girl by the hair and hitting both of them as they tried to flee the scene on a motorcycle. Rohit’s father, Shiv Karan, is meanwhile caught slapping him with a slipper. People around them are seen attempting to intervene and help the couple during the attack.

Vinay Tiwari, the officer-in-charge of the Gujaini police station, confirmed that a probe is already underway. “In this matter, the police counselled both parties and separated them, and further legal action as required is being initiated,” the police said in a statement.
