‘Padhe Likhe Gawar’: Passenger Slams ‘Rich Family’ Turns AC Coach into Baraat

A Redditor recently posted about a chaotic experience on the Patalkot Express, where an air-conditioned coach was taken over by a prosperous family who converted the booked train space into what was more like a spur-of-the-moment wedding bash.

Referring to it as the ‘worst travel experience’ of his life, the passenger, who had travelled with his mother on a confirmed ticket, mentioned that he was shocked to see their seats taken up by the group. Even though the seats were eventually vacated, what happened next left him agog.

“Was minimum 25-30 and 8-9 children. Appeared like they were off to a wedding all dressed up, pumped up, and converted the coach into a baraat-type coach,” he described.

Referring to them as a ‘rich Sindhi family’, the user mentioned their gold chains and branded clothes. Something that started manageable soon got out of hand. “One girl started putting mehendi on everyone. The kids were running up and down, screaming like banshees,” he remembered.

The family opened a huge food spread, hollering across the coach. “They were opening cold drinks, thandai, mangoes, oranges, bananas, pineapple, dhokla, cake, theplas, chips, sev, ice cream…everything,” said the user. “They were screaming stuff like: ‘Jijaji, thepla lo!’ ‘Oreo biscuits kidhar hai!’ ‘Mehendi wali baith ja zara!'”

After lunch, the commotion intensified with tambola, including raucous number calling. Later, railway officials stepped in at the next station after a complaint was made on Rail Madad and asked the group to mute their voices.

“Then, out of spite, they increased the noise level. Started singing bhajans, playing cards, and ridiculing me for complaining. ‘Aur karo complaint!'” he wrote.

Clearly agitated, he summed up: “Well-educated, well-dressed, wealthy but completely zero class or civic consciousness. Padhe likhe gawar in the fullest sense.”

On social media, most people liked his update, criticizing the group’s action and lack of manners. One user wrote, “We certainly do have a civic sense and discipline issue.” Another one said, “Money cannot buy class.”
