In a disturbing display of rage, a 16-year-old boy wielding a sword vandalised a government bus in Mumbai’s Bhandup area on Saturday afternoon. The shocking incident, captured on video, has raised concerns about rising juvenile crime in the city.
Bus Attacked on Busy Street
The teenager, already known to police for his involvement in several cases, brought traffic to a halt when he blocked a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus around 3:10 PM on Tank Road, Bhandup West. Armed with a sword, he threatened the driver, verbally abused him, and began smashing the windshield and windows.
Driver Dnyaneshwar Rathod, who was on duty at the time, later filed a police complaint detailing the ordeal.

Family Dispute Sparked Rampage
According to reports, the boy was enraged after being accused of theft by his uncle. During police questioning, the teen admitted he lost control of his temper after being scolded.
“He told the police during questioning that he had lost his temper after his uncle accused him of theft,” Lokmat Times reported.
Alongside the bus, a nearby auto-rickshaw and a water tanker also suffered damage, with shattered windshields visible at the scene. Authorities estimated the total loss to be around ₹70,000.
Multiple Charges Filed
Police have charged the teen with criminal intimidation, use of dangerous weapons, and criminal force. Additionally, provisions under the Damage to Public Property Act and the Arms Act have been invoked.
He has been detained and sent to a juvenile remand home while further investigation is underway. Officials confirmed the boy has prior records involving causing hurt and provoking public disorder.

The incident has prompted fresh discussions about the growing trend of violence among juveniles and the urgent need for mental health support and community intervention programs.
