A 28-year-old domestic worker was charged on Wednesday for allegedly stealing two gold bricks valued at Rs 1 crore from his employer’s residence in Juhu.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at Agarwal House in JVPD, Juhu, where a 76-year-old businessman resides with his family.
The accused, Prabhunarayan Mishra, 28, had been employed by the family for approximately four to five years. As per the complaint filed by Praveen Ghag, an employee of the victim’s family, Mishra allegedly stole two 1 kg gold bricks between May 10 and June 20. It is claimed that Mishra took advantage of a day when his employer forgot to lock the safe.
The theft went unnoticed for several days. Mishra continued working for five more days after the theft and subsequently resigned from his position, citing some excuse, according to sources.
Recently, when the elderly resident opened the safe, they discovered the two gold bricks missing. Due to Mishra being the only outsider with access to the elderly couple’s room and his abrupt departure from the job, suspicion fell on him, prompting the employer to file a complaint.
“We have filed a case under section 381 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code and are searching for the accused,” stated an officer involved in the investigation.
