In a gruesome accident on Friday morning, a 35-year-old man lost his left hand after his two-wheeler collided with a BMC-run bus in Mumbai’s Andheri area.
The victim, identified as Ismail Suratwala, was riding his bike when the incident occurred around 9:30 am. According to police officials, Suratwala was exiting a bylane and suddenly entered the main road when his bike struck the rear of a BEST bus, operated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
“As the bus reached a signal, Mr Suratwala, who was going on his two-wheeler, suddenly came on the main road from a bylane and hit the bus. Due to the impact, he fell down and lost his left hand as it got crushed under the rear wheel of the bus,” an official said.
Suratwala, a resident of Mohammed Ali Road, was immediately rushed to Holy Spirit Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police have seized the bus, which has been parked at the MIDC police station. The process of registering a formal case is underway.
Authorities further confirmed that the bus involved in the accident was deployed under west lease, meaning it had been procured from private contractors and was operated under municipal supervision.
