Miley Cyrus is getting real about the past, and that includes her breakup with Nick Jonas. In a recent episode of the Every Single Album podcast, the Flowers singer shared how devastated she was when Nick pulled away during their Disney-era romance.
Cyrus On Her Relationship With Nick Jonas
“I like Nick,” Miley said honestly. “I’m into him.” She remembered being “distraught and sobbing” when Nick left her out of his tour plans and started doing his own thing. Miley had hoped they’d stay in that Disney bubble together. “Why are you leaving me?” she remembered asking him. “Why don’t we do it together?”
The two dated on and off from 2006 to 2009, and Miley didn’t always hold back about the pain of their split. Back in her 2009 book Miles to Go, she wrote about Nick as her “Prince Charming”, but now, she admits that’s not what she wanted to say. “Nick Jonas dumped me, he’s a d**k,” she joked on the podcast, recalling how the editors softened her words. “They let me say he wasn’t a very nice boy,” she laughed, “but I wanted to write, ‘He’s an a**hole.’”
Despite the jokes, Miley made it clear there’s no bad blood anymore. She even threw out a nostalgic, “Niley for life,” for longtime fans. She also praised Nick for showing support to fellow Disney stars like Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato. “We all made it out strong,” she said.
Miley’s also moved on personally. While Nick is married to Priyanka Chopra and has a daughter, Malti Marie, Miley is currently dating Maxx Morando. The couple has been together since 2021.
Cyrus On Her Disney Era
She also shared more on her Disney past, revealing that she wasn’t allowed to perform Hannah Montana songs after leaving the show in 2011. “I wasn’t allowed to sing them,” she said on another podcast. “That was sad. Those songs had my voice, my face.” That changed in 2024, when she was finally named a Disney Legend and allowed to perform those tracks again.
