In a gruesome attack that has left social media users across the globe stunned, 23-year-old Mexican beauty and makeup influencer Valeria Marquez was gunned down in a TikTok livestreaming session at a beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco.
Marquez, who had close to 200,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok, had been posting content related to beauty and makeup.
“They’re Coming” — Chilling Words Before the Attack
While in the live session, Marquez was sitting at a table with a stuffed animal in her hands. Just moments before the attack, she looked visibly nervous and exclaimed, “They’re coming.” Then, a voice off-camera called out to her. “Hey, Vale?” she replied after cutting off the livestream. Gunshots followed shortly.

In a chilling twist, it seemed as though someone answered the phone, and their face flashed onto the livestream before the broadcast cut off.
Treated as Femicide Under Mexican Law
Local authorities have opened an investigation into the murder, handling it under femicide protocols—a gender-based murder of a woman or girl. The Jalisco state prosecutor confirmed the strategy, showing increased concern in Mexico about femicide and violence against women.
Based on previous segments of the livestream, Valeria Marquez had complained about an unexpected visitor. She said someone visited the salon when she was not around with an “expensive gift” for her and said she was not going to wait for them to come back.
Shock and Mourning Across Platforms
The news of her death spread quickly online, and it prompted an outcry of grief and outrage. Fans, friends, and fellow influencers have demanded justice and increased safety measures for women in Mexico, especially those in the public eye.
The suspect has not yet been identified. Investigators are checking livestreaming footage and salon surveillance to locate the perpetrator.
