Mexican Church Sells ‘Plots In Heaven’ For $100 Per Square Meter?

In 2017, a pastor from Mexico’s Iglesia del Final de los Tiempos, or Church of the End of Times, made headlines by claiming to have met ‘God’ and securing authorization to sell plots in “heaven.” These plots, supposedly near God’s palace, were offered at $100 (approximately Rs. 8,346) per square meter, with a guaranteed spot in heaven regardless of plot size.

Promotional materials circulated online depicted heavenly mansions bathed in golden rays, featuring a happy family of four. The ads also highlighted various digital payment options like Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, Google Pay, and Apple Pay.

The story gained traction among TikTok and Instagram influencers, and several mainstream media outlets covered it as legitimate news, not realizing it was satire. Reports claimed the church had amassed millions of dollars since 2017 through these heavenly plot sales.

However, Iglesia del Final de los Tiempos was actually a satirical page created to parody exploitative pastors. Its Facebook page is categorized under ‘Just for fun’, sharing humorous and bizarre content.

Social Media Reactions:

Social media reactions ranged from incredulity to amusement. One user exclaimed, “noooooo they’re doing it againnnnn,” while another noted, “History repeats itself. That’s why knowledge is key.”

A third commenter humorously suggested, “I hope he uses it to buy himself some air conditioner coz he’s guna need it where he’s going,” with another adding, “Don’t forget to tell them about home owners insurance for their home in heaven.”
