A video circulating on social media has sparked outrage, alleging that Uttar Pradesh Police personnel assaulted Dalit women during a domestic violence call in Meerut. The video has quickly gained traction and triggered political condemnation.
Police Responded to Family Fight, Say Officials
According to Meerut police, the incident unfolded during their response to a distress call regarding a violent altercation between two brothers in a local family. As police officers tried to calm the situation, family members allegedly turned aggressive.

In the ensuing scuffle, a sub-inspector sustained injuries. “As officers attempted to diffuse the situation between the brothers, the family members reportedly attacked them,” a police source stated.
Video Triggers Political Uproar
The viral footage has led to a strong reaction from political figures. Leaders from the Samajwadi Party and Congress, including SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, have criticised the police action. However, police officials denied the allegations of assaulting Dalit women and defended their actions during the operation.
They have registered a case based on the complaint filed by the injured sub-inspector and asserted that an inquiry is underway. “The case remains under investigation,” police said, adding that the situation was later brought under control.
