A clip of a man seemingly consuming alcohol within a Delhi Metro coach has gone viral, and widespread outrage on social media ensued. But the true tale behind the now-viral video is considerably more mundane than anticipated. The beverage in question was not booze but Appy Fizz — a non-carbonated, fizzy apple juice.
The man had uploaded the clip on his Instagram page, ‘Food Republic INDIA. Shortly thereafter, the video was posted extensively on Instagram, with users quickly believing he was drinking openly on public transport.
Man Uses Metro Handrail to Peel Boiled Egg
The video captures the man sitting in a reserved seat on a typical metro coach. Wearing a formal shirt and trousers, he begins by pulling out a boiled egg from his bag. In a bizarre and unhygienic action, he peels the egg using the metal handrail of the metro. It shows a horrific lack of concern for public hygiene and manners.

What comes next is even stranger. The man proceeds to pour what appears to be an alcoholic drink into a glass and begins drinking it within the moving coach. Unknown to him, another passenger films the whole incident, which is now being shared extensively across platforms.

Netizens React to the Viral Video
As the video picked up momentum, social media erupted with outrage. While some users were appalled by the man’s behavior, others posted comments on the outrageousness and sheer audacity of the act.
Some users observed that the issue was not so much whether he consumed alcohol, but his public flouting of decorum. One user commented, “This isn’t about alcohol. It’s about basic manners. Who peels an egg on a public handrail?”
History of Viral Moments in Delhi Metro
Unusual moments from the Delhi Metro have frequently dominated the headlines. Last week, a Reddit user shared a video of a man singing and dancing in a coach. Another video featured a woman fighting with a man who was not willing to give up a general seat for her.
In a past incident, a woman in skimpy clothes attracted attention, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) released a statement. It explained, “While personal choices of clothes must be exercised, commuters must avoid wearing clothes that will offend other people.”
What Delhi Metro Rules Say About Drinking in Metro
As per DMRC rules, revised in June 2023, commuters are allowed to carry a maximum of two sealed bottles of liquor while commuting within its network: Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, and Ghaziabad. Drinking or consuming alcohol on the metro premises or trains is strictly not allowed.
The guy in the viral clip might have been drinking Appy Fizz but pretending to drink alcohol, and his public behavior could still land him in trouble with DMRC. The regulations specify that public decorum and discipline need to be maintained by all passengers.
DMRC officials have yet to come out with a formal statement on the video.
