Maha Kumbh 2025: Fire Breaks Out, Two Tents of Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Camp Destroyed

A fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela again on Wednesday, this time at the camp of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, located in Sector 12. The fire began around 7 AM and affected two areas within the camp. Panic gripped the campers, but the fire brigade was quick to respond and contain the flames, with no loss of life. However, goods worth lakhs were destroyed in the blaze.

Two tents of the western region of the camp were completely consumed by fire and smoke was emitted from the eastern section sadhu hut. In the hut there was a woman devotee safely evacuated. Unfortunately, no injuries were reported at the time.

Upon getting news of the fire, more than a dozen fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the site, and the fire was controlled quite quickly. The fire department confirmed that a short circuit, caused by the use of an electric kettle, had sparked the blaze in the sadhu hut. However, members of the Shankaracharya camp are still suspecting foul play, claiming that a fire in two places cannot coincidentally occur at the same time.

In another incident, a fire had erupted in a garbage dump in Sector 21 of the Maha Kumbh Mela area the previous night. Maha Kumbh Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma lauded the fire personnel for their prompt action in both cases. Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati conducts the Dharma Sansad every day at the camp, where hundreds of devotees are staying.
