‘Luxury Check In, Beggar Checkout’: Rajasthan Beggars Beg During Day And Enjoy Night Life In Hotels

Indore Police have apprehended a group of 22 beggars, including 11 children, who had traveled from Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh to beg in the city. The group, which spent their nights in a hotel, has been sent back to Rajasthan following a complaint.

Group of Beggars Found Staying in a Hotel

According to officials from the Women and Child Development Department, a complaint on Tuesday led to the discovery of this group. An investigation revealed that the beggars, consisting of 11 women and 11 children, begged during the day at various spots in Indore and returned to a hotel for rest at night. The police immediately intervened, counseling the group and arranging for their return to Rajasthan.

Strict Instructions for Hotel Operators

Following the incident, local authorities have issued strict instructions to hotel and lodge operators, prohibiting them from allowing beggars to stay in their establishments. The authorities warned that legal action would be taken against any operator found violating this order.

Campaign to Make Indore Beggar-Free

This action aligns with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s pilot project aimed at making Indore, along with nine other cities, free from begging. The Indore administration has already imposed a ban on begging in the city as part of the broader initiative.

Notable Incident: Beggar Earns Rs 2.5 Lakh in a Month

Earlier this year, another high-profile case surfaced during the campaign to rid Indore of beggars. A woman, begging at Lovekush intersection with her two children, claimed to have earned Rs 2.5 lakh in just over a month. She also revealed owning several properties, including a two-story house, land, a motorcycle, and a smartphone, and stated that her home is in Rajasthan. Authorities expressed concern over the organized nature of some beggars, who despite appearing impoverished, earn significant sums from begging.
