Kalki 2898 AD Morning IMAX Show Cancelled; Fans Demand Vouchers, Snacks

The long-anticipated release of Kalki 2898 AD finally premiered in theaters worldwide on June 27th. The film generated significant interest with high demand for advance bookings and IMAX screenings. However, many eager viewers were disappointed when several morning shows at IMAX theaters were either postponed or cancelled. A circulating online video shows a frustrated individual confronting staff at Cinepolis, Westend Mall in Pune after the scheduled 8:30 AM screening of Prabhas’ latest movie was cancelled due to technical issues. The upset man is seen requesting vouchers and complimentary snacks for other affected patrons.

The man says, “I have my job to resume at 12, 8:30 to 11:30 was the show, I have come here specially to watch at IMAX, why I should compensate my experience because of your negligence. Point number 2, we all have taken half days, leaves from our job and came over here, point number 3, you should have informed us, there was one more theatre we could have booked other IMAX. So these are the three points, you have to give us 10 vouchers per person if you cannot play this show, plus we’re going to watch a movie here itself, any other I’m okay with it and if it is crossing 11:30, refreshments are on you, we are not going to pay a single penny for that.”

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “Matured way of handling the situation without getting mad.”

Another joked, “I need this guy to report to my ex-manager.”

“That’s how a real well educated men talks,” a comment read.

Speaking about the issue, a multiplex official informed Bollywood Hungama, “To start the film, a KDM (Key Delivery Message) which is like a passkey, needs to be issued by the distributor. Only then the film can be accessed and played. Many IMAX theatres didn’t get the KDM for the Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD. Hence, they couldn’t play the morning show. The exhibitors had no choice but to refund the amount.”

“Many tickets were sold as it’s one of the biggest films of the year. The patrons were highly upset about knowing that the show was not happening. Some even got agitated. But we were helpless,” they added.

Nag Ashwin’s epic film, Kalki 2898 AD, stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan in prominent roles.
