Protests have erupted in India’s wrestling community against Brij Bhushan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), who was re-elected in December 2020 despite allegations of corruption and mismanagement. Wrestlers across the country are demanding that Singh step down and an independent inquiry be conducted into the allegations against him. Some of India’s top wrestlers, including wrestler Vinesh Phogat and Olympic Medallist athlete Neeraj Chopra. The wrestlers have taken their protests to social media, using hashtags such as #IStandWithMyChampions and #RemoveBrijBhushan, and have shared stories of their struggles to receive funding and support from the WFI.
