Indians Urge Boycott of Azerbaijan, Turkey Over Support to Pakistan

In wake of India’s precision strikes within Operation Sindoor against nine terrorism hotspots in Pakistan and PoK, Turkey and Azerbaijan came out in the support of Pakistan, incensing Indian nationals in the cyberspace.

In a formal release on Wednesday, the foreign ministry of Azerbaijan condemned India’s military action and expressed sympathy towards Pakistan. “The Republic of Azerbaijan is concerned about the further rise of tension between the Republic of India and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” the ministry stated.

The statement further added, “We condemn the military attacks on the Islamic Republic of Pakistan that caused death and injuries to a number of civilians. Being in sympathy with the Pakistani people, we offer condolences to the families of the innocent victims and pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.”

Social Media Reactions

The support declarations evoked sharp responses on social media platforms, with numerous Indian users urging a boycott of tourism in Azerbaijan and Turkey—two countries that have been on the rise among Indian tourists.

“Azerbaijan (BAKU) and Turkey should now witness India’s Power. We should ban these places from our holidays,” wrote one user Anant Ladha.

Enough of Baku visits please. Azerbaijan saw a large influx of Indian tourists in 2024. Let’s show them the might of Indian tourists now!” said another user, Alok Jain.

Another user who used the handle The Skin Doctor recommended redirecting holiday trips to other players in the region: “I see no reason why any nationalist Indian should spend his money there (Azerbaijan and Turkey). Instead, visit their regional competitors, Armenia and Greece.”

During the rising sentiment, Goa Villas, an aggregator of villa rentals, said that it would discontinue providing accommodation to Turkish nationals. “Since Turkey’s non-cooperative behavior in the prevailing global situation involving India and Pakistan, we have decided not to provide any accommodation services to Turkish nationals in Goa. We remain with our nation,” the firm posted on X.

Operation Sindoor Avenges Pahalgam Attack

On Wednesday early morning, Indian forces carried out targeted missile strikes against terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, including Jaish-e-Mohammad headquarters in Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba base in Muridke. This attack took place just two weeks after 26 civilians were brutally killed in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
