A 32-year-old Indian national, Upendra Aduru, has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for attempting to entice a minor into illegal sexual activity, a U.S. Attorney announced on Thursday.
Court documents revealed that between September 20, 2022, and October 6, 2022, Aduru, who was in the United States on a student visa, communicated with an undercover detective posing as a thirteen-year-old girl via social media.
Throughout their interactions, Aduru expressed his desire to engage in sexual activity with the supposed minor and sent multiple images of adult pornography to the undercover detective. He persistently sought to arrange a meeting and eventually traveled to a park in Millcreek Township to meet the girl.
Upon his arrival at the park, Aduru was arrested. A subsequent search of his phone uncovered the incriminating social media communications between him and the undercover detective.
This case underscores the serious consequences of attempting to exploit minors and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect children from such predators.
