Sebin Saji stunned the world with his incredible engineering talent in his custom design of an unusal gadget—a workable miniature washing machine, now named the world’s smallest. With a size of just 1.28 inches by 1.32 inches by 1.52 inches, the teenager’s tiny marvel is even smaller than the very popular 1990s Tamagotchi digital pet.
Guinness World Records officially recognized Saji’s invention as the smallest washing machine in the world. Despite its tiny size, it functions just like a full-sized model, except the weight it is meant to carry is of the smallest load possible. His work has been appreciated for precision workmanship and really brings out the principle behind miniaturization in engineering.
In fact, according to Guinness World Records, the challenge was to design and build it in such a way that the washing machine will be capable of performing a complete cycle—wash, rinse, and spin. Using special digital calipers, Saji was seen in the video showing how the machine works. He added a tiny pinch of washing powder, poured in water, closed the machine, set it off, and so on.
The crowd had amassed to view the making, and the noise of applause was precipitated by his confirmed measurement. If never practical for use, it is at least funny. India also recently made the world’s smallest vacuum cleaner that measures only 0.65 cm or 0.25 in at its shortest axis.
