IFS Officer Shares Inspiring Journey of Elephant Calf Rescued 4 Years Ago

Indian Forest Service officer Parveen Kaswan recently posted a heartwarming video on social media showing the remarkable recovery of an elephant calf named Beer, who was rescued from near death and is now a thriving four-year-old.

In his post on X, Kaswan recounted the calf’s harrowing ordeal: “In September 2020, a tiny, premature calf was pulled from the raging waters of the Torsha River, barely clinging to life.” The calf, only a few days old, was found weak and alone, with little hope of survival without its mother or herd.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of a dedicated team, Beer’s fortunes changed dramatically. “Rescued by the team, Beer was nourished with lactogen milk, fruits, and eventually solid foods. Gradually, he regained his strength,” Kaswan shared. A crucial part of Beer’s recovery was the care provided by park staff member Cheron Subba, who went above and beyond by sleeping next to the calf for the first four months to ensure he felt safe and loved.

Kaswan emphasized Subba’s role, saying, “Cheron Subba, a park staff member, played a pivotal role in Beer’s recovery, even sleeping beside him for the first four months.”

The video, which has garnered over 36,000 views, highlights Beer’s transformation into a healthy member of the National Park family. “Today, four years later, Beer is a thriving member of our National Park family,” Kaswan added.

This isn’t the first time Kaswan has shared touching stories about elephant care. Last month, he posted a delightful video of a newborn elephant bonding with its mother, capturing the baby elephant’s first steps as it tried to keep up with her.
