On August 11, heavy rain transformed Gurugram into a waterlogged mess, leading residents to dub the city “Jalgram.” The deluge caused severe flooding across Delhi-NCR, with images and videos of the inundated roads flooding the internet.
Since Sunday evening, the rain has paralyzed the ‘Millennium City,’ with many areas, including affluent neighborhoods, experiencing significant flooding.
Take a look at the visuals shared by users on social media:
Social media users have posted pictures of people navigating waist-deep water and have tagged the Gurugram Municipal Corporation, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), and the deputy commissioner, demanding urgent action.
Users also tagged the Haryana government and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s office, seeking immediate intervention. Roads in high-end areas like Golf Course Road were compared to rivers in these social media posts.
Criticism has been directed at the city’s civic authorities, with many accusing them of failing to provide adequate drainage infrastructure and alleging corruption in ongoing construction projects.
The torrential rain, which lasted several hours, brought Gurugram to a standstill, sparking public anger over the city’s inadequate response to the flooding.
