A shocking incident of campus violence unfolded at Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) in Meerut on Monday, May 12, when student union president Shubham Malik was brutally assaulted in full public view. The attack, which occurred in front of campus security personnel and fellow students, has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns over law and order within the university.
Assault Caught on Camera, Accused Boasts Power
The violent assault was captured on a bystander’s phone and has since gone viral on social media. In the footage, Shubham Malik is seen being beaten mercilessly by a group of attackers. The primary accused has been identified as Siddharth Kasana, a local strongman known for his influence in the area.

In a disturbing display of arrogance, Kasana is heard saying in the video, “Hawa bhi mudkar chalti hai mere saamne,” (Even the wind changes direction in front of me), while thrashing Malik.
According to eyewitnesses, Shubham was attacked with an iron rod, resulting in severe head injuries. He is currently hospitalised and reported to be in critical condition.
Security Inaction Sparks Student Anger
What has further angered students and netizens alike is that the university’s security staff were present during the assault, yet made no attempt to intervene. This has led to a flood of criticism against both campus authorities and local police.
Responding to the outrage, police clarified that the man seen in a uniform in the viral video was not a policeman, but a university security guard.
Police Response and Case Details
Following the incident, Meerut Police filed a case of attempted murder and launched a manhunt for the attackers. Two teams, led by the Superintendent of Police (City), have been tasked with arresting the accused.
A police spokesperson stated:“A case of attempted murder has been registered in connection with the matter. Two teams have been deployed under the leadership of SP City for the arrest. The person seen in police uniform in the video is a security guard of the university. Action will be taken soon.”
The FIR names Siddharth Kasana, Suchcha, Aditya Yadav, and other unidentified individuals, all believed to be student political rivals of Shubham Malik. Previous confrontations between the groups had also been reported.

In the wake of the attack, the university atmosphere has become tense. Students gathered in protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and better security measures on campus. They also accused the university administration of failing to protect students.
The administration has assured a full investigation and strict action against those involved in the assault.
