
In a rare court moment, Regina Johnson forgave and hugged Joseph Tillman, her husband’s killer, saying 'God loves you', sparking mixed social media reactions.
A courtroom scene from Georgia on August 7 is going viral on social media. Regina Johnson forgave the man who killed his husband. The moment came as Joseph Tillman was sentenced to 20 years of prison time for DUI, reckless driving and homicide.
Upon hearing, Tillman started crying. That's when Regina walked up to him and hugged him. She said, “I forgive you, and God loves you.” Tillman whispered in, "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."
Tony Baker, the judge handling the case, called it an extraordinary moment, saying, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen the wife of a victim hug the defendant where they killed somebody.”

Chuck Johnson, husband of Regina was killed in March 2024. Tillman was reportedly under the influence of nitrous oxide when he struck Johnson while he was riding his electric bike.
The couple had been married for 50 years. The murder left Regina and her family devastated, but her act of kindness captured the attention of the entire social media.
As per the reports from People, ABC 7, and The Sun, Tillman's sentence will allow a suspension of jail time if he completes a 2-year rehabilitation program.

The moment was captured on camera and shared online by Colin Rugg, co-owner of Trending Politics on X, with the caption " Georgia woman forgives the man who took her husband’s life..."
A user commented, “That is a woman with God in her heart.” Another said, “It was an accident. She’s a strong and sensible woman.”

However, not everybody was on the same page. One social media user called the gesture 'insane' and said, “She didn’t care about her husband.” A second user remarked, “Let’s be honest with ourselves. No woman that really loved her husband would do this. This is his posthumous humiliation. She low key hated him.”
